What to Know about the North Carolina Fishing Competition

The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament is one of the largest sport fishing tournaments in the country. For over 60 years, more than 200 competitors make their way to Morehead City in June for the annual competition. The Big Rock, a series of plateaus, ledges, and peaks, is found south of the Morehead City port and is one of the top marlin fishing spots on the East Coast.

This tournament features nine days of fishing and fun. Starting on Monday, there are six fishing days, with daily weigh-ins at roughly 4 p.m. at Big Rock Landing. There are additional events throughout the week, including the KWLA tournament (Keli Wagner Lady Angler), dinners, and a private shopping experience at local boutiques. The festivities conclude on Sunday, June 16, with the awards brunch.

In addition to being a fishing organization, this is also a charitable group. Since 1986, the tournament has raised over $10 million in charitable donations. These funds support the Big Rock Foundation and organizations throughout Eastern North Carolina.
